Internet Marketing - Not Easy But Simple

I've spent much of the last few days reading every email, blog post and report that I could get my hands on regarding internet marketing strategies. Most of what I read made me really appreciate the people who make it their business to provide useful  & valuble information for new kids on the block like me.

I quickly learned that there is no shortage of information, resources, widgets and whatever else I could use to become successful in my online business projects. Right before I got tipsy on all that information :-) and started to overcomplicate things for myself a thought hit me.

Nobody yet has told me that becoming a successful internet entrepreneur is easy. But If you're willing to venture outside your comfort zone and take a few simple steps then you'll dramatically increase your chances and start to see some results.

1. Work the Social Networking So That it Works For You - Start making your presence felt & get your name recognized. Hit the Forums, Discussion Groups, Social Networks, and Blogs.  Join the conversation, leave comments, build rapport & cultivate relationships.  Social Networking = potential clients, partners & customers down the line.
2. Identify Your Go To People - I can rattle off the names of 10 or maybe 15 work at home "heavy hiters" each with a different style & approach.  Pick 2 or 3 and depend on them for as much guidance as they are willing to give.  Don't forget to spend some money with them though.  They are in business too.  I am very impressed with Connie Ragen Green. She is in it to win it just like me.  :-) Plus she gets results.
3. Familiarize yourself with the tools of the trade - These next few pieces will become real familiar to you pretty quickly.  They're the nuts & bolts of your business.  Affiliate Programs, Lead Capture Forms, Autoresponders, Shopping Carts, Domain Names, Keyword Search Tools, Hosted Blogs.  I think over the next few weeks I'm going to give some reviews of some I've taken the time to investigate.
4. Pick a target audience & aim straight - Think about who you want to reach & imagine what you'd say to them if they asked you how to do what you want to do.  Oh... and start writing - If you're not careful you'll be thinking about what to say for weeks without writing anything.  This is your forum to share you & what's important to you with the world.

There will always be more to learn & a new idea to tackle but why complicate things for yourself.  Keep it simple.  You can do this.  :-)
